The annual scientific meeting of the Irish Thoracic Society for 2010 will take place this weekend (5th and 6th of November) in Cork. The Alpha One Foundation will have a stand at the event along with four posters. This meeting is a great chance to increase awareness of AATD and our targeted detection programme among consultants, respiratory scientists, nurses and physiotherapists.

As we head towards winter it's time again for Alpha-1 patients to contact their GPs to get the annual flu vaccine. Vaccines are the best line of defence we have against a flu virus as the flu vaccine reduces infection and associated illnesses and hospitalisation.

For more information please see the HSE website at: http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/newscentre/Campaigns/2010flucampaign.html

We are happy to announce the details of our Annual Patient Conference for 2010 which is taking place on Friday, October 8th, at 10.00am in Marino Institute of Education, on Griffith Avenue on the northside of Dublin city centre.

The Institute is easily accessed from the M50 and is situated on Griffith Avenue (see directions on http://www.mie.ie/About-MIE/How-to-Find-Us.aspx).

We encourage all patients and family members to attend this meeting. If you have any enquires please contact Kitty O’Connor at 01-8093871. We have done our best to respond to the inquiries and suggestions of patients in putting this year’s agenda together. We think that it will be an exciting and interesting meeting. We very much welcome partners and other family members. Don’t forget that you do not have any condition in isolation, it affects the whole family. Hopefully, this conference in some small way will improve your family’s understanding of the condition (please bring suitable (casual/comfortable) clothing and footwear for the relaxation workshop).

We look forward to an enthusiastic and well-attended conference and to meeting you all there.

A Charity Fashion sale will take place in aid of the Alpha One Foundation in the Glenroyal Hotel, on Friday 19th February 2010, 7.00pm - till late.
