EUPATI is a new European Union training programme designed to help patients become directly involved in the research and development of new medicines. Five Irish patients joined the course in October 2014. The second cycle of the EUPATI Patient Expert Training Course will be accepting applications from January 19th 2015, and the deadline for submitting an application is March 31st.
EUPATI is a patient-led initiative and aims to develop scientifically reliable, objective, comprehensive information to patients on research and development of new medicines. EUPATI will produce educational material, training courses and a public internet library to educate and grow the number of patient advocates equipped with the necessary information to participate in the medicines research and development process.
An excellent article on EUPATI was published in Nature Medicine magazine in March which featured some patient stories. The article can be read by clicking here. Another article by EURORDIS the European Rare Disease organisation highlighted and praised the unique and innovative EUPATI training programme.
